The Monarch Officially Strips Prince Andrew of HRH Style and Princely Dignity

In a decisive move, King Charles has officially removed the former Duke of York of his HRH style and his title of prince.

The changes were formalized by issuing royal documents under the official state seal, which were recorded in the UK's official public record.

The official notice declared: “His Majesty has been pleased by royal instruments under the Great Seal dated 3 November 2025 to declare that the individual in question shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the designation of ‘HRH’ and the honorific status of ‘Prince of the realm’.”

Another entry affirmed the removal of the dukedom from the peerage list, with immediate effect.

The notice stated: “The king has been pleased by warrant under his royal sign manual dated 30 October 2025 to instruct his government minister to ensure the Duke of York to be struck from the roll of the peerage.”

Context of the Royal Action

The decision follows mounting scrutiny over the former prince's links to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, including the release of a memoir by Virginia Giuffre.

The author alleged that she was sexually abused by Andrew after being trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein, allegations that Mountbatten Windsor has consistently strenuously denied.

Procedure of Title Removal

The king employed his royal prerogative—accepted authorities held by the sovereign—following consultation with government advisers, rather than through legislative action.

Royal instruments and warrants are tools of this prerogative, used to bestow or revoke honors and styles.

Because the HRH style is granted by letters patent, it can be withdrawn through the same process.

Additional Actions and Support

Following the palace statement, the senior legal official was directed to prepare the required paperwork for the removal of titles.

This action also involves Mountbatten Windsor relinquishing his lease on Royal Lodge, a 30-room Crown Estate property where he has lived for twenty years.

Officials fully supported the monarch's move.

Exception

Despite the stripping of honors, it was confirmed that Andrew will keep his Falklands service medal, granted for his service as a Sea King helicopter co-pilot during the Falklands conflict.
