Anthony Joshua Released from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Fatal Road Accident
Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, Nigerian authorities announced on Wednesday night. The 36-year-old was caught in a vehicular crash outside Lagos on the 29th of December, a horrific crash that resulted in the deaths of two of his team members.
Healing from Light Wounds
The sports star had remained in the hospital while recuperating from non-critical injuries, his promoter had said on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement online that Joshua was judged healthy enough to leave and heal privately.
“Joshua and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two deceased friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” the official remarked.
A Tribute to the Fallen
The victims of the crash were identified as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. Omotoso added that the champion was filled with sorrow and deeply emotional over the passing of his two close friends.”
His release from the hospital arrives after the boxing community offered sympathy for the champion in the following the devastating accident.
